SEIUCHAN KATA

 

Start from a ready position. Rei. -Snap- to a ready position.

1a. Move right foot to left foot to form a "V" with the feet (keep heels together).

b. Back of right hand (palm open) smacks the palm of left hand at chest level. The hands are held at about six inches from the chest. The left hand points upward and to the right at a 45 degree angle and the right hand points upward and to the left at a 45 degree angle.

c. Keeping the hands together, move the hands down to belt level as you bend the knees slightly and bring the feet together to form a Heisoku-Dachi. The left hand points downward and to the right at a 45 degree angle and the right hand points downward and to the left at a 45 degree angle.

2a. Pivoting on your left foot, turn 90 degrees to the left to form a seiuchan stance facing WEST.

b. Starting with the hands open and in front of the body as they would be in a ready position, move the hands upward in front of your body with the palms facing each other. The hands should be held approximately two to four inches apart. Move the hands upward to chin level with the palms facing each other.

c. Keeping the elbows close to the body, turn the palms to face EAST as you execute a double open-hand Soto-Yoko-Uke.

d. Keeping the palms facing EAST, cross the hands in front of your body to execute a double Harai-Uke with the palms facing EAST.

e. Execute a left open-hand catch.

f. Execute a right, middle Shuto to the NORTH.

g. Execute a left Shuto across the body to the NORTH with the palm facing up and directed to chest level as you bring the right hand back to chamber with the palm facing up and extended at waste level to the WEST approximately one hand length. The right palm should line up with the center of the left forearm.

3a. Pivoting on the right foot, turn 180 degrees to the right to form a seiuchan stance facing EAST.

b. Starting with the hands open and in front of the body as they would be in a ready position, move the hands upward in front of your body with the palms facing each other. The hands should be held approximately two to four inches apart. Move the hands upward to chin level with the palms facing each other.

c. Keeping the elbows close to the body, turn the palms to face WEST as you execute a double open-hand Soto-Yoko-Uke.

d. Keeping the palms facing WEST, cross the hands in front of your body to execute a double Harai-Uke with the palms facing WEST.

e. Execute a right open-hand catch.

f. Execute a right, middle Shuto to the NORTH.

g. Execute a right Shuto across the body to the NORTH with the palm facing up and directed to chest level as you bring the left hand back to chamber with the palm facing up and extended at waste level to the EAST approximately one hand length. The left palm should line up with the center of the right forearm.

4a. Pivoting on the left foot, turn 180 degrees to the left to form a seiuchan stance facing WEST.

b. Starting with the hands open and in front of the body as they would be in a ready position, move the hands upward in front of your body with the palms facing each other. 5a. Keeping the same stance, the right fist smacks the palm of left hand at chest level. The hands are held at about six inches from the chest. The left hand points upward and to the right at a 45 degree angle and the right fist points upward and to the left at a 45 degree angle.

b. Keeping the hands together, move the hands straight inward to the chest as you pivot on the left foot 90 degrees to the right to form a right Zenkutsu-Dachi.

c. Keeping the hands together, move the hands straight out to solar plexus level. The left hand should be at a 45 degree angle to the right across the top of the right fist which is directed straight to the NORTH.

6a. Moving the right foot first, shift your body slightly to the NORTH as you form a right Zenkutsu-Dachi.

b. Execute a right Age-Hijiate to the left palm at shoulder level.

7a. Pivoting on the left heel, shift left foot so that it is facing to the WEST to form a seiuchan stance. Your body should be facing NORTHWEST.

b. Bring the right fist to chest level with the palm facing toward your body. The fist is held at a 45 degree angle to the left. The left hand grasps right wrist with the left palm facing away from your body. Both elbows are kept close to your body.

c. Pivoting on the left foot turn 90 degrees to the right to form a right Zenkutsu-Dachi facing NORTHEAST.

d. Keeping the hands in the same position, move the arms out in front of the chest as they were previously. The left hand still grasps the right wrist with the left palm facing away from your body while the palm of right fist turns away from your body.

8a. Pivoting on the right foot, turn 180 degrees to the right to form a seiuchan stance facing SOUTHEAST.

b. Execute a left Harai-Uke.

9a. Pivoting on the right foot, turn 180 degrees to the left to form a seiuchan stance facing NORTHWEST.

b. Execute a right Harai-Uke.

10a. Keeping the same stance, the back of right fist smacks the palm of left hand at chest level. Both palms are facing toward you. The hands are held at about six inches from the chest. The left hand points upward and to the right at a 45 degree angle and the right fist points upward and to the left at a 45 degree angle.

b. Keeping the hands together, shift the left leg forward to the NORTHWEST to form a left Zenkutsu-Dachi.

c. Keeping the hands together, move the hands straight inward to the chest then straight out in front of you at solar-plexus level. The left hand should be at a 45 degree angle to the right across the top of the right fist which is directed straight to the NORTH.

11a. Pivoting on the left foot, turn 180 degrees to the left to form a seiuchan stance facing SOUTHWEST.

b. Execute a right Harai-Uke.

12a. Pivoting on the left foot, turn 180 degrees to the right to form a seiuchan stance facing NORTHEAST.

b. Execute a left Harai-Uke.

13a. Pivoting on the right foot, pivot 225 degrees to the left to form a seiuchan stance facing WEST.

b. Execute a left, open-hand, Age-Uke as you execute a right, open-hand, Harai-Uke (right palm faces EAST.

14a. Pivoting on the left foot, pivot 180 degrees to the right to form a seiuchan stance facing EAST.

b. Execute a right, open-hand, Age-Uke as you execute a left, open-hand, Harai-Uke (left palm faces WEST).

15a. Pivoting on the left foot, turn 180 degrees to the left to form a Heisoku-Dachin facing NORTH.

b. Left hand comes to chest level with the palm facing EAST as the bottom side of right fist smacks left palm. The hands are held approximately six inches from the chest.

c. Keeping the hands in the same position, step forward into a right Zenkutsu-Dachi.

d. Keeping the left hand in the same position, execute a right jab to neck level.

16a. Pivoting on the left foot, turn 135 degrees to the right to form a seiuchan stance facing NORTHEAST.

b. Execute a right Soto-Yoko-Uke to the SOUTHEAST.

c. Pivoting on the right foot, turn 180 degrees to the right to form a seiuchan stance facing SOUTHWEST.

d. Execute a left, middle punch to the SOUTHEAST. *

e. Execute a left, high Uraken.

f. Execute a left, low Uraken.

17a. Pivoting on the right foot, turn 180 degrees to the left to form a seiuchan stance facing NORTHEAST.

b. Execute a right Harai-Uke.

18a. Execute a left Soto-Yoko-Uke to the NORTHWEST, looking in the direction that you are bocking.

c. Pivoting on the left foot, turn 180 degrees to the left to form a seiuchan stance facing SOUTHWEST.

d. Execute a right, middle punch to the NORTHWEST.

e. Execute a right, high Uraken.

f. Execute a right, low Uraken.

19a. Pivoting on the left foot, turn 180 degrees to the right to form a seiuchan stance facing NORTHEAST.

b. Execute a left Harai-Uke.

20a. Pivoting on the right foot, turn 180 degrees to the left to form a left, cat stance facing NORTH.

b. Cross right hand under left at left chamber position.

c. Slide right foot back toward left foot as you lock your left leg.

d. Execute a right Age-Uke as you push backward with your buttocks. Your torso is bent forward at a 45 degree angle.

21a. Pivoting on the left foot, turn 180 degrees to the right to form a right, cat stance facing NORTH.

b. Cross left hand under right at right chamber position.

c. Slide left foot back toward right foot as you lock your right leg.

d. Execute a left Age-Uke as you push backward with your buttocks. Your torso is bent forward at a 45 degree angle.

22a. Pivoting on the left foot, step forward into a right Zenkutsu-Dachi.

b. Execute a right, high punch. *

23a. Cross left hand over right (hands are in open position and extended straight out at head level) as you make a slight step to the SOUTH with the left foot.

b. Drag the right foot back to form a cat stance as both hands move down to belt level then the left hand makes a wide arc to the left as the right hand makes a wide arc to the right and meet again at head level with the thumbs of your open hands turned downward at a 45 degree angle.

c. Bring right foot back towards the left foot as you stomp the floor with the right foot and drive the fists back to chamber position. *
